The Dodgers say that there is the possibility that 115,000 fans will be at the Dodgers/Red Sox game at the Los Angeles Coliseum at the end of March. This would set a new record for a baseball game, and almost any sport. Even the largest college football stadiums do not have this large of a capacity. This will be a fun and exciting game to watch especially with the short distance to the left field fence at 200feet. ESPN will televise the game for the country to see. They should televise batting practice as this is sure to be exciting.
See the link on our homepage for an article regarding the game.

We will have updates throughout the day.
Update 11:00am EST:
The Miami City Commission voted 4-1 in favor of a new Marlins Ballpark.
Last Update:
Miami-Dade County Commission voted 9-3 in favor of building a new Marlins Ballpark at the site of the Orange Bowl.
Updates for 2/20:
Shea Stadium
Busch Stadium
Angel Stadium
Here's the breakdown of the costs of the Marlins Ballpark:
-$155 million from the Marlins
-$347 million from Miami/Dade County: $297 million from tourist tax dollars
-$13 million from the City of Miami
-Total: $515 million
The ballpark will be built on the site of the Orange Bowl, that will be demolished this year. The Miami Hurricanes who played there are moving to Dolphin Stadium for the 2008 season (And you thought the baseball field was tore up in September because of the Dolphins and now there will be two football teams there). More to come on Thursday when City and County Commissioners meet to possibly finalize this proposal.
...for three games. The Tampa Bay Rays will move their series with the Toronto Blue Jays from Tropicana Field in Tampa to Champion Field in Orlando for three games in April. This marks the second year the Rays have did this in an effort to expand their fan base.

It's a good idea. Maybe the Marlins should do something like this. Champion Field is a great ballpark. Visit it this spring to see the Braves in Spring Training or see the Rays their in April.

The spring training home of the New York Yankees is no longer known as Legends Field. It has been named after George Steinbrenner. At least it was not named after a corporation.

Kauffman Stadium may be one of baseball's classic ballparks especially after the closing on Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium after this season. Although it was built in the 1970s it will become one of the older stadiums in baseball. However, many agree that it is one of the best ballparks in baseball. We have updated the Kauffman Stadium page with some new info along with a picture showing the construction of the stadium. Also new are some renderings of what the stadium will look like once the renovations are completed in 2009 (It took us to long to get these up). Enjoy them and a couple of videos of Kauffman Stadium at:

New pics are up on the Nationals Park page showing the construction progress. Just over a month before the Nationals ballpark opens. It appears that the ballpark will be ready by the time the team plays the Atlanta Braves on March 30, 2008. The ballpark defiantly looks different than most other ballparks that have opened with a more newer modern look from the usual retro look, which could be seen as a good thing by some.

It appears that Yankees PA Announcer Bob Sheppard may miss this season according to this article:
http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2008/02/08/bob-sheppard-may-miss-the-final-season-at-yankee-stadium/
There is nothing like going to Yankee Stadium and hearing Sheppard. Yankees games without him just are not the same.
This guy could do the fill in for Sheppard or replace him as he sounds just like him:

Also, it looks like Legends Field, spring training home of the Yankees, may be named after George Steinbrenner later this month. Look for official word later in the month.

The New York Yankees had a media tour of the new Yankee Stadium yesterday. New information and pics can be found on the Yankee Stadium II page.
The team also announced that the cost of the stadium has increased to $1.3 billion. That is almost $700 million more than what the Nationals new ballpark will cost. The new Yankee Stadium looks awesome but that's alot of money. The team also announced plans for the current Yankee Stadium. It appears that the entire structure will be demolished and be replaced with a baseball and softball field. You would think they would want to preserve part of the stadium. Hopefully plans will change between now and 2009.

Welcome back to the Ballparks of Baseball blog. It has been a while, almost two years since we last posted. Instead of posting commentary about ballparks or other information pertaining to ballparks we will now post updates on when the site is updated and what you can expect to see. We have numerous emails asking us what the latest site updates are so hopefully this will be helpful to everyone visiting the site.
By now you have probably seen the graphic ad for our spring training ballparks section. This section is new for 2008. No longer are all of the Cactus and Grapefruit League ballparks lumped together on the same page. Each ballpark now has its own page. All are similar to our main ballpark pages, so be sure to check it out.
Planning a baseball trip this summer? We have a new website, www.stadiumtravelguide.com to help you out, where ever you may want to travel. There is a ton of information on here to help out with any aspect of planning a trip to one city or multiple cities.
Now for the updates as we are updating information on many ballpark pages after months of research:
